Dublin

full time specialized position for 6000 EUR/year???????
How ridiculous can we get??
Translation and Copyrighting Specialist at Grifols, Sant Cugat, Spain.
Below are screenshots of the offer (sorry it’s split into two)
They should be ambarrassed to be offering that.
EDIT: in the comments below, in Catalan, Mezkal lets us know that the company, Grifols, has removed the information regarding salary. Mezkal also provides the following information: in Spain, minimum wage is 8.736 euros/year (that is, 624eur/month split into 14 pays). It was probably a mistake. Thanks, Mezkal!

heart-shaped leaves
I took these on the same day I took a few shots of my grandma.
It finally feels like Fall here: a few nights last week we reached 43 or 44 ºF. This morning is mainly cloudy, although the sun shows up every now and then, which is nice : )
We’ve had the central heating on for a couple of days… and I admit I’m cozy seating by the electric heater : )
Happy Fall to all!

Language endangerment-related videos
Thanks to Lev’s last post on the movie The Linguists, I’ve found a few jewels of videos on endangered language documentation, revitalization, etc.
The Linguists – Archiving for Speakers and Linguists is just one of them, but you’ll see some more related videos at the bottom of the screen.

la iaia | my grandmother (90)

American Indian Languages Teaching Credential
Teaching credential: American Indian Languages
“[...] This bill would require the commission, upon recommendation by a
tribal government of a federally recognized Indian tribe in
California, to issue an American Indian languages credential to a
candidate who has demonstrated fluency in that tribal language, and
met other requirements. The bill would authorize the holder of an
American Indian languages credential to teach the American Indian
language for which the credential was issued in California public
schools in preschool, kindergarten, grades 1 to 12, inclusive, and in
adult education courses, and would make the holder of that
credential eligible for a professional clear teaching credential upon
completion of a specified period of time and application and
consultation as specified. The bill would encourage each federally
recognized American Indian tribe to develop a written and oral
assessment that should be successfully completed before an applicant
is recommended for an American Indian languages credential.”
I found out about it thanks to an email sent to Endangered Languages emailing list at litserv.
