Moving to Ireland | De mudança a Irlanda

Yes, I’m flying to Dublin tomorrow and I’ll join the Google family again on Monday, Nov. 30th. More details to come once I’m settled (or settling : )

full time specialized position for 6000 EUR/year???????

How ridiculous can we get??

Translation and Copyrighting Specialist at Grifols, Sant Cugat, Spain.

Below are screenshots of the offer (sorry it’s split into two)

specialized position for 6000 EUR/year??? (1)

specialized position for 6000 EUR/year??? (2)

They should be ambarrassed to be offering that.

EDIT: in the comments below, in Catalan, Mezkal lets us know that the company, Grifols, has removed the information regarding salary. Mezkal also provides the following information: in Spain, minimum wage is 8.736 euros/year (that is, 624eur/month split into 14 pays). It was probably a mistake. Thanks, Mezkal!

Language endangerment-related videos

Thanks to Lev’s last post on the movie The Linguists, I’ve found a few jewels of videos on endangered language documentation, revitalization, etc.

The Linguists – Archiving for Speakers and Linguists is just one of them, but you’ll see some more related videos at the bottom of the screen.

misc

Translation work: I had to turn down a job today because this agency I’ve never worked for yet wanted me to do a mid to long sized translation in 1.5 days and the pay is not too good (that seems to be a trend). I would have still taken it for the money and challenge, but it turns out I have a phone interview tomorrow and I want to concentrate on that now. I am hoping they’ll consider my services in the future despite having declined the first job they offered.

The good thing about the situation above is that I finally decided to do something about getting some translation memory software to make my work easier. Yay!

Metanote: I forgot to create a post announcing the change of look of this blog. Really, the only thing I did is change the “theme” to Blix so that Exploring Life is more consistent with most of my other blogs, martapiqs a california , martapiqs a nicaragua (martapiqs a portugal is on Blogger, so it’s different). Oh, and I added a custom photo in the header. It is from the Amazon.

Sepahua, and then Nueva Luz

We got to Sepahua a little after 4pm, wasy earlier than we were expecting. Getting here at that time was only a little over 8h of boat trip from Atalaya –we had in fact been told it’d take us 8h, but so far every time we had been said a similar thing (for the trips Yurimaguas-San Lorenzo and San Lorenzo-Nauta), we ended up traveling for 10 to 11 hours not including stops.

We are shopping for everything I need for the next 5+ weeks and we are planning on taking off for Nueva Luz on Sunday.

Will be back online on August 5th o 6th (though I might write again tomorrow Saturday)
